In the last 30 years women have started joining the ranks of firefighters across the nation. Back in the 1980s, women were few and far between in the fire service and faced more than their fair share of discrimination. In the 1990s, women were starting to be grudgingly accepted in the fire service as more and more joined the ranks, but they still faced an uphill battle to prove themselves. Today, women are generally accepted as members of the team and represent as many as two in every five CCFD firefighters. (more…)
